Kevin Brown, Chief Executive Officer and Director.  As CEO, Kevin has overall responsibility for managing ARC Financial Corp., including oversight of the investment decision-making process and strategy.  Kevin also has senior responsibility for ARC’s investments in the Energy Development and  Infrastructure (EDI) area. Having joined ARC when it was founded in early 1989, Kevin has over 20 years of energy related finance, investment research, corporate strategy and direct investment experience.

  • Head of ARC's investment research business from 1993 to 2001.

  • President and Chief Executive Officer of ARC Strategic Energy Fund, a publicly traded close-ended fund formed in 1998 and successfully wound-up in 2001.
  • Prior to joining ARC, worked for the Canadian Energy Research Institute where he was extensively involved in the economic analysis of global and North American energy markets.
  • Education includes an M.A. in Economics and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta.
  • Former Chair and current member of the United Way of Calgary's Major Donor Committee.

Lauchlan Currie, President and Director. Lauchlan has senior responsibility for ARC's investment activities in the Oil and Gas area, where he leads a team responsible for managing existing fund investments and identifying and developing new investment opportunities.  He also plays a key role in the investment decision-making process for ARC's other areas of energy investment.  A geologist by background, Lauchlan joined ARC in 1995 and has over two decades of investment experience in the Canadian Oil and Gas industry.

  • Past Fundraiser of the Year for the Calgary Homeless Foundation.

Nancy L. Smith, Managing Director, Finance and Planning.  Nancy's responsibilities include finance and risk management, strategic planning, investor relations, and legal and regulatory compliance at ARC. Nancy joined ARC in 1999 after nine years in the Oil and Gas industry and four years with a major Canadian bank.

  • Currently represents ARC on the board of Canbriam Energy Inc. 
  • Prior to joining ARC, worked with a major integrated oil company in various executive roles in the financial management and marketing areas.  Prior to that worked at a major Canadian bank.
  • Education includes an M.B.A. and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Alberta.
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

John Stewart, Founder, Vice-Chairman and Director. John has more than 25 years of corporate advisory and project finance experience in the energy sector. Through much of the 1990's he was responsible for ARC's corporate advisory business where he lead numerous engagements and developed unique expertise in the structuring, negotiation and closing of major corporate transactions.  John now brings this valuable knowledge and insight to ARC's investment decision-making process.

  • Prior to founding ARC in 1989 was Vice-President and Director at a major Canadian Investment dealer.

Peter Tertzakian

Phil Swift, Founder, Co-Chairman and Director. With over 30 years of experience as a financial advisor and direct investor, Phil is widely recognized as one of Canada's leading energy investment experts.  He is a co-founder of ARC and played a key role in creating ARC's private equity business.  Phil provides leadership support to the executive team in the areas of internal governance, corporate development and investment decision-making.

  • Currently represents ARC on the board of Pan-Regional Marine Transportation Corporation.
  • Originated ARC’s private equity investing activities in 1990.
  • Played a key leadership role in creating ARC's private equity business in 1997.
  • Served in the position of President and then Chief Executive Officer of ARC from 1997 to 2003.
  • Prior to founding ARC in 1989 was Vice-President and Director at a major Canadian investment dealer.
  • Education includes an M.B.A. and B.Sc. in Math from the University of British Columbia.
  • Member of Advisory Board of the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.
  • Director of a number of philanthropic organizations.

Peter Tertzakian, Chief Energy Economist, Managing Director and best selling author of A Thousand Barrels A Second and The End of Energy Obesity. Peter is responsible for ARC’s strategic investment research and oversees publication of ARC Energy Charts, a weekly journal of energy trends.  Peter’s background in geophysics, economics and finance have established him as an internationally recognized expert in energy matters and a highly sought after guest speaker.  Peter joined ARC in 2002 after 20 years in the energy and finance industry.

  • Currently represents ARC on the board of Nexterra Systems Corp.
  • Began his career as a geophysicist in 1982 working in field operations, seismic data processing and geophysical software development.
  • Moved to the financial sector in 1990 and has since been analyzing technology and energy-related businesses.
  • Previously ranked as the number one analyst in the oilfield service sector and energy technology sector by the Brendon Woods survey of financial institutions.
  • Education includes a M.Sc. in Management of Technology from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, post-graduate studies in econometrics at the University of Southhampton and a B.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Alberta.
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Esther Honens International Piano Competition Foundation.

Mac Van Wielingen, Founder, Co-Chairman and Director. Mac is considered one of Canada’s leading financial experts in the energy sector with more than three decades of investment research, corporate finance and direct investment experience.  Mac has played key roles in numerous significant corporate transactions and capital-raising projects and was the driving force behind ARC's evolution into Canada's leading energy focused private equity firm.  Mac provides leadership support for the executive team in the areas of internal governance, corporate development and investment decision-making.

  • Served as Chief Executive Officer of ARC from 1989 to 2001.
